I'm Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department of TU Darmstadt , Darmstadt, University of Technology (Germany) and member of the Intellectics group , where I also did my PhD. From December 1998 to February 2000 I have been, with a Marie Curie research grant , as a guest researcher at IRIDIA , Université Libre de Bruxelles , Belgium, working in the group of Marco Dorigo on Ant Colony Optimization and Iterated Local Search. Before that, I did my PhD here in Darmstadt with a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft via the Graduiertenkolleg ISIA . From October 1994 to June 1995 I have been for nine month with the Statistics and Operations Research Department at Universidad Complutense de Madrid in the lovely Madrid, Spain. My research focus is on applications of Metaheuristics, in particular, of Ant Colony Optimization and Iterated Local Search to hard combinatorial optimization problems, the study of local search algorithms for Constraint Satisfaction Problems and the Satisfiability problem in propositional logic, the analysis of the run-time behavior of metaheuristics, and the search space analysis of combinatorial problems. I'm local co-ordinator of the Metaheuristics Network , a research network funded by the European Commission within the Improving Human Potential Programme , which started in September 2000. I'm also head of the Metaheuristics Unit at the Intellectics group. I'm associate editor for Mathware and Soft Computing . I'm co-organizing the IJCAI-03 Workshop on Stochastic Search Algorithms , and the IJCAI-03 Tutorial on Stochastic Search. Together with Holger Hoos I have created and maintain SATLIB , an online collection of benchmark instances and solvers for propositional satisfiability problems.
