Generic Containment Hierarchy Format, rev. 1.0

Work in progress: last updated Tue Nov 23 1999

Andrew Caldwell, Andrew B. Kahng and Igor Markov

A generic containment hierarchy can be represented by a list of clusters and each cluster's parent. Typically, leaves of such a hierarchy correspond to objects in another structure, e.g., a hypergraph, and may bear attributes unrelated to the hierarchy.

A hierarchy is represented in a single file with extension .hcl.xml. Each leaf and cluster must be mentioned by name (no previous declaration necessary) and accompanied by the following information:

Semantic constraints are listed at the end of the DTD.
