1. As a Licensee, where do I go for Java technology support?

Licensees may contact a group within Sun Microsystems called Java Partner Engineering (JPE). This group delivers a portfolio of services that include support for Java technologies. JPE provides customers with licensee and engineering services, helping you to rapidly produce successful Java technology-enabled products and services.

2. Can I have the binaries emailed to me or get the URL to download directly?

Unfortunately, due to legal restrictions we cannot send binaries via email or otherwise allow users to bypass the web-based download process. If bandwidth is a concern for you, you can purchase many of our technologies as part of the Sun ONE Starter Kit.

3. How can I get the source code for the Java programming language?

Please see the Sun Community Source Licensing (SCSL) pages for licensing information, downloads, FAQs and contact information.

4. How do I buy and/or license other Sun software products?

For information on how to buy and/or license other Sun software products, please see http://wwws.sun.com/software/sales/

5. Is Java technology free and can it be redistributed?

Most of the java.sun.com products and API's are free to download and use for commercial programming, including:

The J2SE SDK and the JRE can also be freely redistributed, provided that it is distributed with a value-added application or applet or with a published book or magazine. For more details on the rules applying to publishers or to read the licensing agreement, refer to the licensing agreement. Each release has its own license, available from the product download page.

Please note that prerelease software (For example, the JRE v1.4 Beta) is not free to redistribute. We encourage developers to use production versions of the software.

6. What are Sun's Java technology logo and trademark policies?
Can I use logos for Sun's Java technology?
Can I use the Java technology logo?
How do I apply for the third-party logo programs?

Java technology-related logos and designs are Sun brands and should not be used in any manner by other companies without Sun's express advance permission. Visit Sun's Trademark and Logo Usage Guidelines for complete policy details.

While the stand-alone Java technology logo is restricted to Sun's use, there are a number of third party logo usage programs available. For more information, please see our Licensed Logos page.

You can apply for the "Java-Get It Now!" button to help your visitors get the latest version of Sun's Java Virtual Machine.

7. What is in the Java Development Kit (JDK) and how do I get one? The Java Developer Kit (JDK) is now called the Java 2, Standard Edition (J2SE) SDK. It contains the Java interpreter, compiler (javac), the debugger (jdb), and the AppletViewer. Refer to the J2SE download pagefor all available versions.
