ExPRESS is a research group in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at the UCSB. We are broadly interested designing future generations of embedded computing systems. The term "embedded system" means many different things to many different people. For our purposes, embedded systems are non-traditional computing devices that we encounter often, ideally without even realizing their existence. They are the digital circuits that control our transportation (cars, planes), enable communication (wireless transceivers, network routers) and are even found on other planets (Mars Rover). They are the anti-desktop computer.
We take a particular interest in computing devices that can be customized after fabrication. There are many flavors of these systems and even more buzz words to describe them. We have picked "extensible, programmable and reconfigurable" as our buzz words du jour. These were mainly chosen because they make a semi-decent acronym. We reserve the right to change these once they go out of vogue. For more information on exactly what we do, feel free to look around our cyber home. The projects page provides high level overviews of our research interests. For more specific details, check out our technical publications. If you still have questions, feel free to contact one of us.
