Tool Definitions:
Synopsys offers several "packages" for Universities. For introductory VLSI courses that use HDL synthesis, the analyzer, compiler, and timing analysis tools are often used. Synopsys does not offer physical design tools such as layout editors and place and route tools. The netlist output can be used with tools from other vendors such as Cadence and Mentor Graphics. 

System Requirements: UNIX-based platforms, typically in an X-Window environment. Generally, computer systems need to have a minimum of 256 megabytes of memory and should be in excess of 4 gigabytes.

Libraries:
Synopsys synthesis tools are supported within the Artisan design kit for the TSMC 0.18 micron and TSMC 0.25 micron processes.

Licensing:

Floating licenses with license server.
